We are a high end orthodontic practice with a solid reputation locally. We are fortunate to have a great base of referring doctors and happy patients that refer friends and family. Our office needed to have a large reception area to allow for us to have a large number of clinical chairs. I wanted our reception area to feel more like a living room, so we created small seating nooks with couches and chairs and partitions instead of having everyone sit around the perimeter of the office looking at each other (like so many offices do). Comfort for our patients was a top priority, and providing a unique experience from start to finish was a top priority. To that point, we added both a video game room, as well as a stadium seating type movie theater room for the patients to enjoy while their parents relax with a cup of coffee and decompress for that 20-30 minute period. We have 2 new patient exam rooms to allow for us to see multiple new patients at one time. We have an open bay area as well as semi-private area for patients that want more privacy. We also added 2 oral surgery suites in the back of the office to allow the future addition of oral surgery to our practice. The surgery area has it's own exit through the back so that patients that have had surgery and are recovering do not need go out through the reception area. We play upbeat music and do our best to keep the phones answered in the back office so that our front desk team is able to be attentive to our patients.
Design Criteria: Design Summary
We have LED lighting throughout the clinical area and entrance. We can set those colors to celebrate any specific holidays. Our movie theater and game rooms keep the patients happy. Our rooftop deck keeps our team happy with a place to relax during lunch.
Design Criteria: Dental Technology
We utilize brackets, wires, TAD miniscrews, lasers, 3D CBCT, and intraoral scanners. We also utilize our software for tracking referral sources.
We have almost exclusively moved away from taking alginate impressions. We are planning to add a 3D printer in the next year or two to help with model fabrication and creation of our own in-house aligner systems. This will be a centralized process amongst our 6 locations.
Design Criteria: Dental Equipment
Our equipment is pretty standard orthodontic chairs and side carts. Our sterilization area was conveniently placed in the heart of all the patient care action.
Design Criteria: Ergonomics
All handpieces and suction are conveniently located on our side carts at each station. Plenty of storage located in the clinical area to keep all needed supplies and equipment close by. Intraoral scanners are on wheels to allow for us to be mobile with our ability to scan patients. Doctor nook is right in the heart of the practice in the middle the 10 orthodontic bay chairs.
Design Criteria: Aesthetics
Our practice strives to remain on the cutting edge of technology and treatment. Our office had to convey that feeling to our patients. We wanted an office that did not feel like the typical dentist office. We wanted our patients to feel super comfortable, in a modern environment, but also feel super warm and home-like. Our goal was modern elegant, both fun for kids, and high end for parents and adult patients. I believe we achieved that goal.
Design Advice: Dental Technology
Be sure to work with experts throughout the process. It's so hard to concentrate on seeing patients daily and managing the process from design to completion. It's worth the money to pay the professionals to alleviate your stress so that you can focus on taking great care of your patients and growing your business.
*****We have many many more photos of the office. The site was not cooperating and I have spent the past 3 hours trying to upload all photos. I am happy to connect you to a dropbox, or mail you a disc, but I am unable to get all photos on the site.*****
